Lady Eagles battle the No. 3 Lady Buffs in Canyon

Canyon, Texas – The Lady Eagles continued their road trip to open conference play with a matchup against the No. 3 West Texas A&M Lady Buffs.

In the first quarter, the Eagles jumped out to a quick 10-6 lead. The Lady Eagles played excellently on the defensive end, which led WT to take several low-quality shots. By the end of the first, WT had taken the lead 12-10, but the Lady Eagles would not back away.

At the beginning of the second quarter, WT extended their lead with an 8-2 run early, but the Lady Eagles countered with their own 8-2 run following the media timeout. Within the quarter of runs, WT added five points to their first quarter lead by a score of 27-20 heading into halftime. Brooklin Bain had 8 points within the first half, along with 5 rebounds. Nakia Cullom added 4 points and 5 rebounds as well. Kate Bradley chipped in 4 points, 2 rebounds, and 1 assist in the first half.

As the third quarter rolled around, the Lady Buffs of WT let it fly from 3-point land, which led to a quick 15-point lead. The Lady Eagles continued to work the ball at the basket, despite the tough defense displayed by WT. Sparked by Kendall Brown on both sides of the ball, the Eagles kept the game within range.

During the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles continued to fight. The great defense would lead to some quick points for Oklahoma Christian. Attacking the basket, the Lady Eagles put pressure on the WT defense, drawing fouls, heading to the free-throw line, and making free throws down the stretch. Thanks to the defense effort led by Nakia Collum, the Lady Eagles brought the lead down to 12. Unfortunately, the Lady Buffs would pull away at the end, escaping the Lady Eagles by a score of 66-51.

The Lady Eagles will place next week at Oklahoma Baptist University on Tuesday, December 6th, at 5:30 p.m.
