LUBBOCK, Texas (Jan. 8, 2022) – It's a mighty challenge in normal circumstances to try and take down No. 1-ranked Lubbock Christian (Texas) on its home court, but when the Chaparrals shoot as well as they did Saturday afternoon against Oklahoma Christian, it's well nigh impossible.
LCU made 10 of its first 12 3-point attempts and eventually finished 13 of 22 (59.1 percent) from behind the arc, allowing the Chaparrals to pull away from OC early en route to an 88-56 win inside the Rip Griffin Center.
OC (4-10, 1-3 Lone Star Conference) hung with NCAA Division II's top team for the first few minutes. The Eagles led 5-2 before a 13-0 run by LCU (14-0, 2-0), capped by three straight 3-pointers. OC responded with a 7-0 run of its own, keyed by five points by
Drew Tennial, who had 19 points and nine rebounds, and pulled within 15-12.
The Chaparrals then scored 12 straight points, 11 by Aamer Muhammad, who had three 3-pointers and a dunk during that run that put his team ahead 27-12 with 6:34 left in the first half. He made all four of his 3-point attempts and led the Chaparrals with 22 points.
Lubbock Christian led 46-23 at halftime and was up by as many as 36 points in the second half before a late spurt by the Eagles closed that gap a bit.
OC made 3 of 14 3-point attempts (21.4 percent).
Nyk Madison went 5 of 8 from the field for the Eagles and scored 13 points while
Moun'Tae Edmundson added 10. For Lubbock Christian, Parker Hicks scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Lloyd Daniels had 16 points and eight assists. The Chaparrals shot 58.6 percent 34 of 58) from the field.
OC will be back on the LSC road on Tuesday for a game at Arkansas-Fort Smith.
