5 Eagles win events as OC downs William Jewell

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (Jan. 28, 2022) – Five Oklahoma Christian swimmers won individual events as Oklahoma Christian downed William Jewell (Mo.) 133-97 in a dual meet on Friday at Breech Pool.

OC had dropped a meet at William Jewell last season by a 144-94 score, but the Eagles controlled the rematch, held at a neutral site at Drury (Mo.). Cheyenne Parks won the 200-yard freestyle and 100 butterfly while Vivian Pitsch, Olivia Rollen, Hope Hill and Mallory Mead each won one event for the Eagles. OC also won both relays, giving the Eagles eight wins in 13 events in the dual.

The Eagles opened the dual with a win in the 200 medley relay, with the quartet of Pitsch, Andrea Rogers, Parks and Rollen prevailing in 1:48.32. In the second event, the 200 freestyle, OC dominated, with Parks, a sophomore from Guthrie, Okla., leading a 1-2-3-4-5 finish and posting a time of 1:52.86, a school record that also met the NCAA B qualifying standard. Kayci McKinnon held the former record of 1:53.37, set in 2018.

Pitsch, a freshman from Koblenz, Germany, took the 100 backstroke in 58.43 seconds before William Jewell recorded its first event win in the 100 breaststroke, but the Cardinals never caught up in the team race.

The Eagles took three consecutive events in the middle of the dual. Rollen, a freshman from Edmond, Okla., won the 50 freestyle in 22.39 seconds, with teammate Eden Chiu-Pinheiro second in 23.19 seconds. Hill, a sophomore from Santa Clarita, Calif., won the 100 freestyle (54.43 seconds) before Mead, a sophomore from Timonium, Md., prevailed in the 200 backstroke (2:07.20), with OC freshman Julia Flores second in 2:11.74.

Parks (57.13 seconds) won the 100 butterfly and the Eagles closed the dual by taking the 200 freestyle relay, as Madysen Monroe, Pitsch, Chiu-Pinheiro and McKinnon won in 1:32.23.

The Eagles will swim a dual against No. 3-ranked Drury on Saturday.
