KINGSVILLE, Texas (Jan. 22, 2022) –
Brooklin Bain recorded her second straight double-double, but Oklahoma Christian fell behind early and eventually fell 77-44 to Texas A&M-Kingsville on Saturday at the Steinke Center.
Bain, a freshman from Comanche, Okla., had 23 points and 15 rebounds for OC (0-12, 0-4 Lone Star Conference), while
Kate Bradley added 10 points and
Kendall Blackburn had nine points and nine rebounds.
Emma Epperly, with two points, was the only other OC player to score.
The Lady Eagles, playing only their second game after an 18-day break due to COVID-19 protocols, outrebounded league-leading TAMUK (13-4, 6-0) by a 48-41 margin but shot only 22.6 percent (16 of 72) from the field.
"When you shoot 20 percent from the field and only have four people score, you will get beat pretty bad," OC coach
Stephanie Findley said. "We have a lot of practicing to catch up on and little time to do it."
OC led in the early minutes before the Javelinas took a 16-8 first-quarter lead. TAMUK led 35-22 at halftime and kept pulling away in the second half. Brianna Pena led TAMUK with 14 points, hitting 4 of 6 3-point attempts, while Janessa Payne scored 12 of 4-of-7 3-point shooting. The Javelinas shot 17 of 36 (47.2 percent) from 3-point range, with four players making at least three shots from behind the arc.
The Eagles will play a makeup game at Arkansas-Fort Smith on Tuesday before returning home to face UAFS on Thursday.
