Cheyenne Parks led Oklahoma Christian's two-woman contingent on Friday morning in the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America's National Collegiate Open Water Championship at Lone Star Lake.
In her first race of the swimming season, Parks, from Guthrie, Okla., covered the 5,000-meter course in 1:09:00.0 to place 36th overall out of 70 swimmers from 21 schools. Among swimmers from non-NCAA Division I schools, Parks placed third out of 18.
Her teammate, sophomore
Mallory Mead of Timonium, Md., placed 53rd overall in 1:11:05.1.
The race winner was Kate Beavon of Purdue, who posted a time of 1:03:09.6.
To qualify for the event, swimmers had to meet time standards in distance events in the pool (500-yard freestyle, 1,000-yard freestyle and 1,650-yard freestyle).
