OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 16, 2021) – In a match that remained scoreless for 68 minutes, two quick goals proved to be the difference maker for Southwestern Oklahoma State in its 2-0 win over Oklahoma Christian on Thursday at the Eagle Soccer Field.
Oklahoma Christian (0-2), in its 2021 fall season home opener, controlled 48 percent of the possession on their home field. In 90 minutes of play, they recorded six shots, three on frame. Sophomore
Brooklyn Fink led the offensive charge for the Eagles with two shots on goal.
After a scoreless first half, both teams wanted to change the pace of game in the second half.
SWOSU (2-3) came into the game on a three-game losing streak, and the Bulldogs would not find a fourth straight loss. Their first goal happened in the 69th minute, as sophomore Desiree Rodriguez hit the ball from about 20 yards out and found the upper right corner over the hands of freshman goalkeeper
Ashlee Jackson.
The Eagles mounted several attacks but were unable to connect.
To seal the win, the Bulldogs -- who took 15 shots -- scored in the 73rd minute, as sophomore Elizabeth Moreno passed the ball to junior Julia Rocha, who chipped the ball in.
Jackson, getting her first collegiate start in goal for the Eagles, recorded five saves in 90 minutes of play. Southwestern goalkeeper Ashley Hughes made three saves.
The Eagles will play their next match on the road on Saturday in Alva against Northwestern Oklahoma State.
