EDMOND, Okla. (May 4, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian's second trip across Edmond this baseball season went about as well as the first, and that was bad news for the Eagles.
Central Oklahoma jumped on the Eagles early on Tuesday night and cruised to an 11-2 win over OC at Wendell Simmons Field in the rubber match of a three-game nonconference series between the local rivals.
As in a 20-0 home win over OC on March 16, UCO (21-16) seized control early against the Eagles, leading 8-1 after three innings. The Bronchos scored twice in the first inning against OC starter
Casey Minchey (1-1) and added two more in the second and four more in the third.
OC (23-12) picked up a run in the second against UCO starter Grant Larson in the second, when
Tanner White hit a ground-rule double and scored when
Jaren Hill reached on an error, but Larson (2-4) otherwise was dominant during his three-inning stint, striking out seven Eagles.
The Eagles' other run came in the sixth.
Blake Empkey led off with a double down the left-field line and scored on an infield single by
Michael DiFiore.
Chance Westervelt,
Coleton Hinkle and
Kevin Collyar each had two hits for the Eagles, who had nine as a team. UCO had 14, led by Ryan Harrel, who went 3 for 4, while four other Bronchos had two each.
The Eagles will finish the regular season this weekend, visiting Lone Star Conference foe Lubbock Christian (Texas) for a three-game series scheduled to start Friday.
