Eagles battle to scoreless tie with Dallas Baptist on Senior Day

OKLAHOMA CITY (March 27, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian earned a result in its Senior Day game, but it wasn't the kind the Eagles would have preferred.

OC and Dallas Baptist (Texas) battled to a 0-0 tie at the Eagle Soccer Field in a nonconference game the Eagles came inches away from winning on three occasions and in which they held a man advantage for nearly 32 minutes.

OC (1-6-1) mostly controlled the game, outshooting Dallas Baptist (1-4-1) by a 27-10 count and earning 10 corner kicks to three for the Patriots. Dallas Baptist goalkeeper Kyle Renton made nine saves to help keep his team in the game, although one of his defenders might have made the biggest save for DBU, clearing a shot by OC's D'Waylan McIntosh off the goal line in the 53rd minute.

If that wasn't the biggest save, the one made by defender who cleared a shot by Jesus Garcia off the goal line in the 98th minute was. Another OC shot, in the 21st minute by Salva Cotaina, hit the right post.

In the 78th minute, Dallas Baptist's Marco Casulli received a red card and was ejected, giving OC a man advantage the rest of the way. Renton made four of his saves after that point.

Making his first career appearance and start, OC goalkeeper Lukas Appel – a freshman from Elsinore, Denmark – played all 110 minutes, making three saves.

After the game, OC recognized six seniors – Sebastian Capkovic, Garcia, Daniel Moos, Pedro Ribeira, Carlos Trapero and Michael Young.

The Eagles will close the regular season on Tuesday at Lone Star Conference foe West Texas A&M.
