OKLAHOMA CITY (March 27, 2021) – Whatever was ailing Oklahoma Christian's offense last week appears to be resolved.
The Eagles followed their roughest week of the baseball season with one of their most impressive offensive series in recent memory, rolling to a 12-2 win on Saturday afternoon over Eastern New Mexico at Dobson Field to complete a three-game series sweep of the Greyhounds.
Coleton Hinkle led a 13-hit OC attack with three hits and
Tanner White smacked a two-run home run for OC (11-9, 10-8 Lone Star Conference), which hit .449 as a team during the series while recording 48 hits – including 25 for extra bases – and scoring 45 runs.
On Saturday, they also received a strong, efficient pitching performance from left-hander
Julien Ly (3-1), who needed only 70 pitches to navigate through six innings before giving way to reliever
Robbie Suhr. Ly allowed only two hits and one walk while striking out six batters.
A double steal – with
Kevin Collyar swiping home and
Michael DiFiore stealing second base – and RBI hits by Hinkle and
Grant Lake staked the Eagles to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and they never looked back. Collyer hit a RBI triple in the second inning before White's home run – on the first pitch thrown by Eastern New Mexico reliever Liam Sabiston – made it 8-0.
OC tacked on another run in the third when
Cole Lee's single scored
Jaren Hill and three more in the fourth, making it 12-0.
Eastern New Mexico starter Dalton Thatcher (1-3) didn't make it out of the second inning.
Eastern New Mexico (5-16, 4-16) is playing all of its games on the road this season due to New Mexico state policies regarding the COVID-19 pandemic. The Greyhounds scored two runs in the seventh inning, but that wasn't enough for them to avoid their second run-rule loss of the series.
OC will continue its homestand next weekend, hosting LSC opponent Cameron for a three-game series, with a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday.
