OKLAHOMA CITY (March 21, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian hit two home runs, but No. 10-ranked West Texas A&M pulled away with a five-run eighth inning for an 11-5 win over the Eagles on Sunday afternoon at Dobson Field, completing a sweep of the three-game baseball series.
West Texas A&M (18-3, 15-2 Lone Star Conference) extended its winning streak to eight games while remaining atop the LSC standings, while OC (8-9, 7-8) – ranked 10th in the South Central Region – dropped its fourth straight game but remained in a tie for sixth in the 13-team league.
OC led 2-0 after
Michael DiFiore hit a two-run first-inning homer off West Texas A&M starter Todd Danzeisen. It was tied 3-3 after three innings before the Buffaloes scored three runs off OC reliever
Noah Bates (0-2) in the fourth. Bates pitched 4 2/3 innings of relief, striking out five batters, to keep the Eagles in the game.
Grant Lake's RBI double to center field in the bottom of the fourth pulled the Eagles within 6-4 and a solo homer by
Blake Empkey in the seventh made it 6-5. But West Texas A&M took advantage of five walks, three wild pitches and a balk while posting its big eighth inning.
Chandler Dean (2-0), who pitched four innings of relief for the Buffaloes, earned the pitching win.
OC's season-long 11-game homestand will continue Tuesday at 2 p.m. against nonconference foe Rogers State. The Eagles will return to LSC action with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Friday against visiting Eastern New Mexico.
