WICHITA FALLS, Texas (March 20, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian midfielder
Gracie Cornelius apparently has figured out the secret of scoring against Midwestern State (Texas).
As she did Wednesday in a home win over Midwestern State, Cornelius put the ball in the net for the Eagles and that proved to be enough for OC to leave Stang Park on Saturday afternoon with a 1-1 draw in a Lone Star Conference soccer match.
OC (1-5-1, 0-3-1 LSC) took a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute after
Natalie Thomas put in work to beat the Midwestern State defense, allowing Cornelius – a freshman from Mustang – to take advantage and score her second goal in four days against the Mustangs.
Midwestern State (1-4-1, 1-2-1) tied the game with its first shot of the second half, by Reece Wildt in the 49th minute. The Mustangs nearly took the lead in the 53rd minute, but an OC defender cleared a loose ball off the goal line.
OC and Midwestern State battled through two scoreless overtimes. Midwestern State outshot the Eagles 27-7, with OC goalkeeper
Gabby Goddard making five saves and her counterpart for the Mustangs, Taylor Camp, making three.
OC's scheduled match Monday at Southwestern Oklahoma State has been cancelled. The Eagles will host No. 6-ranked Dallas Baptist (Texas) on Wednesday at 5 p.m. in another LSC match.
