LUBBOCK, Texas (Feb. 23, 2021) – Lubbock Christian (Texas) took the lead on a first-half penalty kick and never relinquished it while beating Oklahoma Christian 3-0 on Tuesday night at the LCU Soccer and Track Facility in OC's pandemic-delayed men's soccer season opener.
Fernando Flores scored two goals (including the penalty kick) for Lubbock Christian (2-0, 1-0 Lone Star Conference), which outshot the Eagles 21-8.
D'Waylan McIntosh led OC (0-1, 0-1) with three shots, while
Carlos Trapero took two.
Flores converted his penalty kick in the 26th minute after OC goalkeeper
Anthony Trabichet was called for a foul. Agustine Contreras Orsi made it 2-0 in the 50th minute for the Chaparrals.
Trabichet was called for another foul in the 75th minute that resulted in another penalty kick for Lubbock Christian, but he saved the shot by Flores to keep the score at 2-0. But in the 83rd minute, Flores sealed the win for the Chaparrals with his second goal.
Trabichet made four saves for the Eagles, while Lubbock Christian goalkeeper Braxton Thorne had three.
OC's next game will be its home opener, on March 2 against LSC opponent Texas-Tyler.
