COMMERCE, Texas (Nov. 6, 2021) – Despite being picked last in the preseason Lone Star Conference women's soccer poll, Oklahoma Christian finished ninth out of 14 teams.
In its final game of the 2021 season, OC (4-8-4, 4-5-4 Lone Star Conference) traveled to play Texas A&M-Commerce (9-7-2, 7-5-1) on Saturday and lost 9-0, with goals being scored by eight different Lions.
Both OC goalkeepers saw action.
Gabby Goddard started and recorded one save, while
Ashlee Jackson played 57 minutes and recorded three saves.
In the offensive attack,
Ellise Foreman and
Carson Hazel both recorded shots on goal for the Eagles, while
Gracie Cornelius tallied two shots.
Kyla Lovelace,
Katie McCullock and
Ana Carolina Ferreira each added one shot. OC combined for seven shots, compared to 22 for TAMUC. The Lions' goalkeepers, Jen Peters and Lauren Banning, each played a half and combined to make two saves.
While 2021 season ended with a loss, the Eagles' four wins and four ties represent a positive step for the program. OC coach
Evan Dresel, in his first season, led the Eagles to their most results in a season since 2011, when the Eagles finished 6-10-2.
OC's four wins this season (against Texas-Tyler, Texas-Permian Basin, Eastern New Mexico and Texas A&M International) were the most for the program since 2016.
The Eagles scored 13 goals in their 16 games the season. Lovelace led the way with six goals in her true freshman campaign.
Goddard finished with 76 saves this season.
