OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 8, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian's volleyball team won the first set on Friday night against Texas-Permian Basin, but things quickly went sideways for the Eagles after that.
UTPB rallied to take a tight second set, then took advantage of numerous OC errors to finish off a 3-1 (20-25, 25-22, 25-17, 25-13) win over the Eagles in the Eagles' Nest.
Allyssa Hamlin (11 kills, 15 digs) and
Kyla Chavez (27 assists, 15 digs) each had a double-double for OC (5-11, 1-6 Lone Star Conference), which rallied from an early 10-5 deficit in the opening set. The Eagles closed the set on a 7-2 run to win it 25-20.
But UTPB (9-4, 4-1) responded in the second set, breaking an 18-18 tie with four straight points, two on kills by Maycee Barker. OC seemed to be in control of the third set, up 15-10, before the Falcons scored 15 of the next 17 points. Seven of those UTPB points came on errors by OC, which hit .105 for the match.
The Falcons, who hit .181, kept up the pressure in the fourth set, scoring nine straight points to go ahead 9-1, and OC never recovered.
Acquincia Strambler led UTPB with 14 kills and Sara Antic added 13.
Brylie Berryman led OC with 24 digs, while
Hannah Rouse had nine kills and eight digs and
Jovana Cernjanski added nine assists, seven digs and a kill.
OC will host Western New Mexico in another LSC match at noon on Saturday.
