OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 30, 2021) – Lone Star Conference power Arkansas-Fort Smith swept Oklahoma Christian 3-0 (25-19, 25-22, 25-20) on Saturday afternoon in the Eagles' Nest.
Arkansas-Fort Smith (12-12, 7-6 LSC) jumped to a 5-0 lead in the first set and never trailed OC (7-17, 3-10). With the second set tied 21-21, the Lions went on a 4-1 run that included two aces by Lexy Lewis to go up by two sets. OC hung tough in the third set, forging a 16-16 tie before UAFS scored five straight points to seize control.
Hannah Rouse led OC's offense with eight kills, with
Spencer Plato (13) and
Kyla Chavez (10) reaching double digits in assists.
Brylie Berryman had 13 digs and two aces and Plato had 11 digs and two aces for OC to complete her double-double.
OC is three games behind Eastern New Mexico, St. Edward's (Texas) and Texas A&M-Kingsville (who are tied for 10th) for the final spot in the 12-team LSC postseason tournament. The Eagles have four regular-season matches remaining – at Midwestern State (Texas) and Cameron next Friday and Saturday, respectively, and at home against TAMUK and Texas A&M International on Nov. 12-13.
