Late rally by Eagles falls short at UTPB

ODESSA, Texas (Oct. 30, 2021) – A late goal by Isaias Silva gave Oklahoma Christian hope on Saturday afternoon at Texas-Permian Basin, but UTPB was able to ride out the soccer match and beat the Eagles 2-1 at the UTPB Soccer Field.

Shots by the two teams were balanced (the Falcons had 13, OC had 12) but the Eagles fell behind in the 16th minute when Kasper Wallstroem put UTPB (3-11-2, 2-4 Lone Star Conference) ahead. The Falcons extended their lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute when Wallstroem assisted on a goal by Gustavo Barroso.

Silvas, a freshman from Mustang, Okla., scored his first collegiate goal in the 82nd minute off an assist from Alejandro Colom. The Eagles pressed for an equalizer in the final minutes, but twice were called for being offside and were unable to get off another shot before time expired.

OC goalkeeper Anthony Trabichet made four saves, while UTPB goalkeeper Alfonso Aragon had six saves.

OC (1-10-3, 0-6-1) will close its season on Wednesday, when the Eagles will host LSC power West Texas A&M at 7 p.m. The Eagles will recognize nine seniors before the game – Luke Humphrey, Pedro Ribeira, Carlos Trapero, Bjarne Deraeve, Trabichet, Dalton Tunstall, Igbinosa Isere, Thomas van der Meulen and Jesus Garcia.
