OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 27, 2021) – Dallas Baptist (Texas) rallied from a two-goal deficit to stun Oklahoma Christian 3-2 in overtime on a chilly, windy Wednesday night at the Eagle Soccer Field.
The Eagles outshot Dallas Baptist 14-12 and controlled the action throughout the first half and well into the second. OC (1-9-3, 0-5-1 Lone Star Conference) took the lead in the second minute, on a beautiful timing play, with
Joep Claassen passing to
Miguel Fonseca, who then sent a cross to a charging
John Osadolor Ighede. Ighede scored his team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Dallas Baptist's Payton Franklin was called for a foul in the penalty box in the 48th minute and OC's
Salva Cotaina buried the penalty kick to give the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
But Dallas Baptist (5-5, 2-3) tied the game in an 88-second span, on goals by Christian Naizer in the 77th minute and another by Emmanuel Loni in the 78th minute.
DBU's Giovanni Enriquez, who had received a yellow card in the 81st minute, received a red card less than three minutes later, leaving the Patriots a man down for the rest of the match.
In the 99th minute, Peyton Voelker scored the game-winner for Dallas Baptist.
OC goalkeeper
Anthony Trabichet made three saves while his DBU counterpart, Alexander Knepper, had two.
OC will visit Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday before returning home to play the regular-season finale against West Texas A&M next Wednesday.
