Eagles win on the road against Texas A&M International

LAREDO, Texas (Oct. 23, 2021) – Losing in Laredo is not in Oklahoma Christian's vocabulary.

For the past three meetings between OC (3-5-4, 3-2-4 Lone Star Conference) and Texas A&M International (2-11-1, 1-7-1), the Eagles have traveled nine hours to far south Texas and brought a win back to Oklahoma City. The latest OC win was a 1-0 decision on Saturday afternoon at the Dustdevil Soccer Field.

The match Saturday was the Eagles' only match this week and the rest paid off after OC's tie against St. Mary's (Texas) last Saturday. No overtime would be needed this weekend for the Eagles.

One goal proved to be the difference-maker for OC. In the 23rd minute, Katie McCullock hit the ball from the left side of the field toward a running Kyla Lovelace in the penalty box. Lovelace took one touch and then placed the ball in the right corner of the net, recording her fourth goal of the season.

The OC defense recorded highlights for the remainder of the match, only allowing the Dustdevils 11 shots (five on goal). Sophomore goalkeeper Gabby Goddard finished with five saves in the match. In not conceding a goal, Goddard posted her fourth clean sheet of the season and sixth of her career.

The Eagles had a diversified offensive attack against TAMIU with Lovelace, senior Thalia Delgado and freshman Perla Beltran taking two shots each. OC had 11 for the match. Texas A&M International goalkeeper Fabiana Solano made four saves.

With the win, the Eagles moved into a tie for seventh with Lubbock Christian (Texas) in the Lone Star Conference standings. The top seven teams will advance to the conference tournament.

"I am so proud of the team today," OC coach Evan Dresel said. "A lot of players contributed. TAMIU is a very talented team, so it was a tough game, but the team fought the entire 90 minutes. I couldn't be happier with our effort."

The Eagles will return home Wednesday to play league-leading and No. 5-ranked Dallas Baptist (Texas) at 4:30 p.m. OC stunned then No. 1-ranked DBU on March 24, earning a 2-2 draw with the Patriots in Oklahoma City.
