SAN ANTONIO (Oct. 23, 2021) – St. Mary's (Texas) scored a pair of second-half goals and made them stand up for a 2-0 win over visiting Oklahoma Christian in men's soccer on Saturday at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
St. Mary's (7-5-2, 4-3-2 Lone Star Conference) and OC (1-8-3, 0-4-1) battled to a scoreless draw in the first half, with each goalkeeper –
Anthony Trabichet for OC, Andre Schlaefli for the Rattlers – having to make only two saves.
The Rattlers stepped up the offensive pressure and broke through in the 54th minute on a goal by Alonso Rodriguez. As the Eagles pressed for an equalizer, St. Mary's sealed the win in the 81st minute with a goal by Edu Bonatto, who had assisted on Rodriguez's goal.
St. Mary's outshot OC 19-7.
Miguel Fonseca and
Pedro Ribeira each took two of the Eagles' shots. Trabichet finished with eight saves, while Schlaefli had three for the Rattlers.
OC has three regular-season games remaining, two of those at home. The Eagles will host Dallas Baptist (Texas) on Wednesday, visit Texas-Permian Basin next Saturday, then host West Texas A&M on Nov. 3.
