Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Time runs out on Lady Eagles’ rally at Texas Woman’s

DENTON, Texas (Jan. 26, 2021) – Oklahoma Christian's 3-point shots just would not fall most of Tuesday afternoon at Kitty Magee Arena – until the final 75 seconds of the game.

OC made things interesting, using four 3-pointers during that stretch to slice a 14-point deficit down to four in the final seconds, but Texas Woman's hung on for a 68-62 win, ending the Lady Eagles' road winning streak at three games.

OC (3-3, 3-3 Lone Star Conference) struggled with its shooting for most of the game, hitting 40 percent from the field (24 of 60) and 29.2 percent from 3-point range (7 of 24, including the Lady Eagles' final flurry).

Sophomore forward Emma Epperly provided a bright spot for OC, scoring a career-high 19 points on 9-of-15 shooting. But only two other OC players reached double figures – Maddison Collyer Ingraham (12 points, six assists) and Brooklin Bain (11 points, seven rebounds).

Another big difference was rebounding, as Texas Woman's (1-3, 1-2) outrebounded OC 42-27, allowing the Pioneers to extend possessions and eventually build what grew into a 17-point lead. Texas Woman's led 49-32 after a 3-pointer by Kendall Lentz with 4:39 left in the third quarter.

A layup by Ingraham pulled OC within 56-45 with 8:26 left in the game, and there the score stood for more than five minutes as the teams combined for 13 straight missed shots. Epperly finally ended the drought for OC with 3:02 left, but the Pioneers scored seven of the next nine points and led 63-49 after a 3-pointer by Sadie Moyer with 1:28 left.

Ingraham hit a 3-pointer with 1:15 left and suddenly the floodgates opened for OC. After a turnover by the Pioneers, Kendra Levings hit a 3-pointer and made it 63-55.

Two free throws by Moyer put Texas Woman's back up by double digits, but Ingraham split a pair of free throws with 40.9 seconds left. Atlanta Hopgood rebounded the miss for OC before finding Tyra Peck open for another 3-pointer with 34 seconds left, making it 65-59.

Macy Wilkerson missed two free throws for the Pioneers with 33.7 seconds left and there was a scramble for the loose ball, which ended up in TWU's possession with 24.8 seconds left. Kam Daily then split a pair of free throws for the Pioneers before Bain's 3-pointer with 10.3 seconds left pulled OC within 66-62.

Moyer, who led Texas Woman's with 14 points, ended OC's hopes by making two free throws with :08 left.

Ma'K'la Woods added 13 points and 14 rebounds for Texas Woman's while Scout Huffman added 10. The Pioneers played without their head coach, Beth Jillson, so assistant coach Jake Stevens ran the team bench.

OC had entered the game with consecutive road wins at Texas A&M International, Cameron and Angelo State (Texas). The Lady Eagles will be on the road again Thursday when they visit Arkansas-Fort Smith, before UAFS plays at OC on Saturday.
