COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (July 9, 2020) – Oklahoma Christian swimmers
Jamie McGarrigle,
Kayci McKinnon and
Cheyenne Parks have been named to the Scholar All-America list by the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America.
The award recognizes student-athletes who posted at least a 3.5 grade-point average and either qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships or posted a NCAA B qualifying time during the season. The OC trio became the first in the program's three-season history to earn the CSCAA academic honor.
Parks, a freshman Finance major from Guthrie, earned first-team Scholar All-America honors after qualifying for the Division II meet, swimming a qualifying time of 2:01.38 in the 200-yard backstroke in the Trinity (Texas) Tiger Invitational in San Antonio in November. In April, she became the OC program's first All-America honoree.
On the Scholar All-America honorable mention list was McGarrigle, a junior from Indian Harbour Beach, Fla., who already is pursuing her master's degree in Finance from OC, having graduated last summer. She swam a NCAA B qualifying time of 24.01 seconds while finishing second in the 50-yard freestyle at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships in Grand Junction, Colo., in February.
In May, she was named to the Academic All-District list by the College Sports Information Directors of America, the first OC swimmer ever to receive that honor.
McKinnon, a freshman Nutrition and Exercise Science major from Trophy Club, Texas, joined McGarrigle in receiving honorable mention on the CSCAA list. McKinnon swam a B qualifying time of 10:26.92 in the 1,000-yard freestyle at the RMAC Championships.
