OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 22, 2020) – Saturday was a day Oklahoma Christian's baseball team will want to forget.
Texas-Tyler, which had hit eight home runs all season before this week, hit seven longballs while rolling to 14-4 and 13-3 wins in a doubleheader at Dobson Field, giving the Patriots the series win over OC with a game yet left to play.
OC (3-10, 3-10 Lone Star Conference) will try to salvage at least one win against Texas-Tyler (11-1, 11-1) on Sunday at 1 p.m.
In the first game, Bowie Farris went 4 for 4 with two home runs and seven RBIs for the Patriots, who rallied from an early 2-1 deficit with an eight-run fourth inning. Texas-Tyler recorded 15 hits off seven OC pitchers, with starter
Hayden Boyd (0-2) taking the loss.
The Patriots' starter, Reagan MacDonald (2-0) – the reigning NCAA Division II pitcher of the week – allowed 10 hits over five innings but still earned the win.
The second game proved eerily similar for the Eagles, with Texas-Tyler recording 14 hits, including home runs by Riley Jepson and Alex Smith, and scoring at least one run in all seven innings OC used four pitchers and starter
Brent McDonald (1-2) was tagged with the loss. Texas-Tyler's Garrett Arredondo (3-0) pitched five innings to pick up the win.
There were a few bright spots for OC. Senior
Errett Edwards went 6 for 6 in the doubleheader, catcher
Brendon Bavester threw out three Texas-Tyler baserunners trying to steal second base in the first game, and freshman
Jaren Hill – making his debut for the Eagles – hit a home run in each game.
