Eagles rout Northeastern State to cap 2nd weekend of Edmond Regional Festival

OKLAHOMA CITY (Feb. 16, 2020) – After an up-and-down weekend in the Edmond Regional Festival, Oklahoma Christian picked up a solid win on Sunday at Tom Heath Field.

Freshman Katelyn Dunckel homered and drove in four runs, Jaiden Johnson added a pair of RBIs and the Eagles made quick work of in-state rival Northeastern State, winning 9-1 in a softball game that lasted only 78 minutes and was shortened to five innings due to the run rule.

OC (12-3) split a pair of games both on Friday and Saturday in the festival but Dunckel made sure there would be no offensive issues for a third straight day, lofting a three-run shot over the left-center field wall off NSU starter Hannah Hasle (0-1) in the first inning for her first collegiate homer.

The RiverHawks pulled within 3-1 in the top of the third on a run-scoring single by Alyssia Crick, but OC answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning. Brie Dunckel reached on a single and stole second, third and home, the latter as part of a double steal with Johnson. Lindsey Stoeckel and Brianna Robinson followed with RBI singles to extend OC's lead to 6-1.

Johnson stroked a two-run double to left-center field in the fourth and Katelyn Dunckel's single up the middle scored Johnson to make it 9-1. Northeastern put two runners on base in the fifth but OC starter Kali Crandall (6-0) escaped the jam – and ended the game – by striking out Crick. Crandall allowed the RiverHawks only three hits while recording her second complete game of the season.

OC will host the third and final weekend of the festival starting Friday, when the Eagles will face Nebraska-Kearney and Pittsburg State (Kan.).
