No. 19 Midwestern State scores home win vs. Eagles

WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Sept. 26, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian had hoped to perhaps catch NCAA Division II men's soccer power Midwestern State (Texas) sleeping, as the Mustangs were coming off a tough loss and had another big game coming up later this week.

Unfortunately for the Eagles, No. 19-ranked Midwestern State was its usual self on Thursday night at Stang Park, outshooting OC 21-3 en route to a 3-0 win in the Lone Star Conference opener for both teams.

Midwestern State (5-1, 1-0 Lone Star) took the lead in the 40th minute when Guilherme Martins scored from just inside the penalty box. Sebastian Venegas made it 2-0 in the 57th minute on a fast break, taking a pass from Ross Fitzpatrick, and Venegas sealed the win for the Mustangs in the 64th minute, scoring off a corner kick.

OC (3-3, 0-1) picked up two shots from Diego Vazquez and another from Pedro Ribeira, but the Eagles weren't credited with a shot over the final 29 minutes and Midwestern State goalkeeper Taylor Lampe didn't have to make a save. OC goalkeeper Anthony Trabichet, the Lone Star's leader in saves, made four against the Mustangs.

The Eagles will continue their four-game road stretch next Thursday at Texas-Permian Basin in another LSC game.
