ODESSA, Texas (Oct. 3, 2019) – In one of the best offensive performances in Oklahoma Christian's NCAA Division II era, five Eagles each scored a goal as OC routed Texas-Permian Basin 5-0 on Thursday night at the UTPB Turf Field.
OC (4-3, 1-1 Lone Star Conference) scored five goals in a soccer game for the first time since Nov. 2, 2013, when the Eagles fell 6-5 in two overtimes at UTPB, and OC's margin of victory was its best since beating Central Christian (Kan.) 6-0 on Sept. 14, 2013, in McPherson, Kan.
The five goals matched the second-most by a LSC team this season. Texas-Tyler scored six in a win over NAIA opponent Southwestern Assemblies of God (Texas) on Sept. 27, while Eastern New Mexico also had five against UTPB (2-6, 0-2) on Sept. 28.
Maxime Trabichet,
Bjarne Deraeve and
Diego Vazquez each had a goal and an assist for OC, while senior
Vinicius Alves recorded his first career goal and
Carlos Trapero also scored as the Eagles recorded their second road win of the season.
OC outshot the Falcons 22-13, but most of UTPB's shots were off target, as OC goalkeeper
Anthony Trabichet needed to make only one save in his 84 minutes of work.
Daniel Moos came in for the final six minutes in goal – his first action of the season for the Eagles – to finish off the shutout, the team's second this season.
The Eagles took the lead in the 23rd minute, with Deraeve scoring off an assist from Vazquez. In the 29th minute, Vazquez scored his goal off an assist from
Maxime Trabichet.
Trapero's unassisted goal came in the 66th minute, coinciding with a red card issued to UTPB's Salvador Vargas Ramos, which left the Falcons a man down the rest of the match. OC took advantage, putting the game away with two more goals.
Alves, from Sao Benedito, Brazil, scored an unassisted goal in the 80th minute and
Maxime Trabichet scored in the 81st minute off a feed from Deraeve.
UTPB used two goalkeepers, with Alfonso Aragon making two saves in the first half and Jerry Bohi making eight saves in the second half.
The Eagles will wrap up their four-game road stretch on Saturday when they visit Lubbock Christian (Texas) for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
