EDMOND, Okla. (Sept. 13, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian scored the most goals it ever has in a soccer game against Central Oklahoma, but it wasn't enough to hang with the No. 10-ranked Bronchos on Friday night.
Brianna Concienne and
Isabel Brazil scored the Eagles' first two goals of the season just 74 seconds apart in the second half, but UCO held on for a 5-2 win at Tom Thompson Field.
OC (0-4) had scored only three goals in 10 previous meetings against UCO (2-0-1) and the Bronchos outshot the Eagles 31-11 on Friday. UCO built a 4-0 lead on goals by Hannah Daaboul in the 28th minute, Ashton Johnson in the 51st minute, Asha Haile in the 60th minute (her fifth of the season) and Kelsie Eason in the 75th minute.
But just when the Bronchos felt comfortable, OC rallied. Concienne, a junior from Flower Mound, Texas, scored the second goal on her collegiate career, an unassisted strike from just outside the penalty box in the 84th minute. In the 85th minute, Brazil, a freshman from Edmond, also recorded an unassisted goal – on a shot from outside the box that deflected off the crossbar into the goal – to pull OC within 4-2.
UCO sealed the win in the final minute with another goal by Eason, giving her four for the season.
OC freshman goalkeeper
Gabby Goddard made 10 saves while her UCO counterpart, Kelsi Gibson, had two saves.
The UCO game was the first of four straight on the road for the Eagles. OC's next contest will be Thursday at 5 p.m. at another local rival, Southern Nazarene.
