CLAREMORE, Okla. (Sept. 12, 2019) – Noah Robson scored on a 25-yard strike in the 85th minute to give No. 21-ranked Rogers State a 2-1 win over Oklahoma Christian on a wet Thursday night at Soldier Field.
In a battle of former Heartland Conference soccer rivals that now are in separate leagues – OC in the Lone Star Conference, Rogers State in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association – the teams endured a lightning delay of 68 minutes at halftime and played the second half with rain pouring from the sky.
Rogers State (2-0-1) outshot the Eagles 19-7 and took the lead in the 41st minute when Jake Simpson took a pass from Robson and scored into the lower right portion of the goal.
The Hillcats' Michael Turner committed a foul in the penalty box in the 66th minute, leading to a successful penalty kick by
Diego Vazquez that tied the game for OC (2-1).
OC goalkeeper
Anthony Trabichet kept the Eagles in the game with 10 saves, including three in a 23-second span in the 78th minute on Rogers State shots from inside the penalty box, but he had no chance to stop Robson's game-winning shot, a rocket which sailed into the upper left corner of the goal.
Rogers State goalkeeper Austin Wormell made two saves.
OC will host NCAA Division II Central Region power Northeastern State on Saturday at 7 p.m.
