OKLAHOMA CITY (July 19, 2019) – Oklahoma Christian coach Barry Wheeler continues to build the Eagles' revived program, adding a pair of transfers in Anslee Bridges of Lawton and Evyn Fitzgerald of Tulsa.

Bridges, an outside hitter, comes to OC from Central Christian (Kan.) after playing one season for that NAIA program. In 23 matches (62 sets) last season, Bridges had 72 kills, seven blocks and 45 digs for Central Christian. She attended Lawton Eisenhower High School.

"Anslee was one of the top players for Central Christian," Wheeler said. "She brings in that collegiate experience that we need. She is a solid player and is a leader in the classroom, on the court and in her church."   

Fitzgerald, an opposite/defensive specialist, played last season at Chatham (Pa.), an NCAA Division III school. She appeared in two matches (seven sets), with 12 kills, a .209 attack percentage and four digs. She attended Metro Christian Academy in Tulsa.

"Evyn has a great personality and the experience we need to help lead our freshmen," Wheeler said. "She is a strong leader and student and she has great insight to the game that will prove to be helpful for such a young team."

Fitzgerald and Bridges join eight incoming freshmen on the OC roster – Cloie Mitchell of Oklahoma City, Jada Close of Copperas Cove, Texas, Hannah Rouse of Newcastle, Emily Armstrong of Lonoke, Ark., Karlee Alonzo of Norman, Ravyn Michel of Livermore, Calif., Jessica Souza of Choctaw and Allyssa Hamlin of Arlington, Texas.

OC announced in July 2018 it would revive its volleyball program, after originally fielding a varsity program from 1976 to 1983. The university hired Wheeler in January, with plans for him to begin recruiting players to begin participating in the program this fall, practicing and preparing for competition in 2020. The Eagles will compete in NCAA Division II and the Lone Star Conference.
