GRAPEVINE, Texas (Oct. 26, 2019) – Freshman
Cheyenne Parks won three events and sophomore
Grace Hill had two wins and a third-place finish to lead Oklahoma Christian to a dual win over NCAA Division III Southwestern (Texas) on Saturday afternoon at the GCISD Swim Center.
OC, a third-year NCAA Division II program, outscored the Pirates 152-123 in the meet, in which individual events were scored to fifth place (9-4-3-2-1) and relays were scored to third place (11-4-2).
Parks, from Guthrie, set a school record in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 2:08.48, more than two seconds better than
Riley Powelson's time of 2:10.72 in last season's Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships.
The versatile Parks also took top honors in the 100 backstroke (1:00.51) and the 1,000 freestyle (10:52.48). In the latter event, she led the Eagles' only 1-2-3 finish of the day, with
Kayci McKinnon second and
Maggie Farley third.
Hill, from Santa Clarita, Calif., won the 200 freestyle (2:01.93) and the 200 individual medley (2:19.96), with a third-place finish in the 100 freestyle (57.54 seconds) sandwiched in between.
Other event winners for the Eagles included Powelson in the 200 butterfly (2:19.92), McKinnon in the 500 freestyle (5:22.22) and
Hanna Forbat in the 100 butterfly (1:01.40). Forbat also took runner-up honors in the 100 breaststroke (1:10.97).
The Eagles' next competition will be the Drury Invitational, set for Nov. 8-9 in Springfield, Mo.
