Heartbreak as Eagles drop 2nd straight OT decision

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 12, 2019) – For most of the game, Oklahoma Christian controlled the action Saturday afternoon against Texas-Tyler, but the visitors took advantage of two set-piece goals to leave the Eagle Soccer Field victorious.

Travis Collins headed home a corner kick from Caio Godinho just over six minute into overtime, giving Texas-Tyler a 2-1 win over an OC squad that held a 58-42 percentage edge in time of possession and a 14-11 advantage in shots.

It was the second straight overtime loss for OC, which fell 2-1 at Lubbock Christian (Texas) last Saturday. OC (4-5, 1-3 Lone Star Conference) fell into a tie for eighth in the league standings, while Texas-Tyler (6-2-2, 1-1-2) moved into sixth place. The top six teams at season's end will qualify for the LSC postseason tournament.

With the wind at their backs, the Eagles outshot Texas-Tyler 7-1 in the first half and just missed taking the lead in the 27th minute when Thomas van der Meulen's shot caromed off the right post.

The Patriots went ahead just after halftime, when Nicolas Viader scored off a corner kick by Shane Popieluch. OC kept pressing and was rewarded in the 81st minute when freshman Maxime Trabichet scored his second goal of the season on a rocket shot from just outside the penalty box.

OC had the wind in the overtime period, but the Eagles weren't able to take advantage, failing to record a shot before the Patriots earned a corner kick, which Godinho took in the 97th minute, leading to Collins' golden goal.

Texas-Tyler goalkeeper Parker O'Quinn, a transfer from Lubbock Christian, made one save, while his OC counterpart, Anthony Trabichet, had two saves, one of those in overtime to briefly keep the Eagles alive.

OC will host No. 9-ranked Midwestern State (Texas) in a nonconference game on Thursday at 7 p.m.
