No. 6 Midwestern State beats Eagles in nonconference game

OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 17, 2019) – Hiraruhito Meike came off the bench to score two goals and No. 6-ranked Midwestern State (Texas) downed Oklahoma Christian 4-0 on Thursday night at the Eagle Soccer Field.

Although Midwestern State (10-1) and OC (4-6) both are Lone Star Conference members, the game was played as a nonconference contest. Midwestern State won the designated LSC game 3-0 on Sept. 26 in Wichita Falls, Texas.

The Mustangs outshot OC 26-7 in a physical contest that included six yellow cards (three on each team) and a red card on OC's Pedro Ribeira in the 57th minute that left the Eagles down a man for the rest of the match.

Sebastian Venegas stole the ball and dribbled once before launching a spinning shot from outside the penalty box in the 16th minute to put Midwestern State ahead. Meike scored in the 29th minute to make it 2-0.

OC's best chance to score came in the 44th minute, when Midwestern State's Koby Sapon-Amoah tripped OC forward Tate Tettleton just outside the penalty box as Tettleton was driving toward the goal. Diego Vazquez's free kick hit a wall of Midwestern State players and rebounded back to him, but his follow shot went wide right.

The Mustangs went ahead 3-0 on a goal by Carlos Vargas in the 57th minute and Meike sealed the win for his team in the 78th minute.

OC goalkeeper Anthony Trabichet made five saves while his Midwestern State counterpart, Marc-Antoine Huzen, made one.

OC's final six games all will be in league play, starting next Thursday at home against St. Mary's (Texas).
