Eagles oh-so-close but fall to Harding

OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 1, 2018) – Neither team had beaten the other at home in the four-year history of the Oklahoma Christian-Harding (Ark.) series entering Saturday, and that mystifying trend continued on a hot afternoon at the Eagle Soccer Field.

Harding's Jack Savage scored in the 54th minute and the Bisons made that goal stand up for a 1-0 win that evened the overall series between the teams at 2-2-1. Harding has won twice and tied at OC, while the Eagles twice have won in Arkansas.

Harding (1-0-1) outshot the Eagles 18-7 and freshman goalkeeper Anthony Trabichet kept OC in the game, making nine saves. The best save of the first half, though, came from his counterpart, Michael Wasson, who blocked a point-blank shot by OC's Diego Vasquez in the 34th minute.

OC defender Jaiden van der Heijden cleared a loose ball off his own goal line in the 49th minute to keep the game scoreless, but the Bisons broke through minutes later. Trabichet made a strong save of a shot by Christian Ramos, but the rebound went to Savage, who had an essentially empty net into which to shoot.

The Eagles spent the rest of the game trying to equalize. Vazquez banged a long-range shot off the crossbar in the 60th minute and in the 83rd minute, a Harding defender was able to send a loose ball in the goalmouth out of bounds before two OC players could manage a shot.

Wasson finished with four saves for the Bisons.

The Eagles will play their first road game on Thursday at Oklahoma Baptist, then will close the nonconference portion of their schedule next Saturday at Northeastern State.
