AUSTIN, Texas (Oct. 25, 2018) – St. Edward's (Texas) broke through Oklahoma Christian's solid defense for a pair of second-half goals, lifting the Hilltoppers to a 2-0 win on Thursday afternoon at Lewis-Chen Family Field.
St. Edward's (7-8-1, 6-6-1 Heartland Conference), a squad scrambling to reach the league's six-team postseason men's soccer tournament, had a chance to take an early lead against OC (6-10-1, 4-8-1), but OC goalkeeper
Anthony Trabichet stopped a penalty kick by the Hilltoppers' Dylan Armstrong in the sixth minute.
The Eagles, who were outshot 17-2, made it to halftime with the game tied before a trying second half. In the 51st minute, a shot by the Hilltoppers' Kieran Furse deflected off an OC player into the goal to put St. Edward's up 1-0. The Hilltoppers doubled their lead in the 61st minute when Marcus Collins took a through ball from George Murray and scored.
OC's hopes of a rally took a hit in the 68th minute when
Zourab Tsopourachvili received a red card, leaving the Eagles a man down the rest of the way.
The Eagles' two shots were by
Diego Vazquez (on goal in the 14th minute) and
Vinicius Alves. St. Edward's goalkeeper William Tuffin made one save, while Trabichet had eight, increasing his league-leading season total to 98.
OC will wrap up its 2018 season on Saturday at No. 6-ranked Midwestern State (Texas).
