WICHITA FALLS, Texas (Oct. 27, 2018) – Oklahoma Christian put together another solid defensive performance in its soccer season finale at No. 6-ranked Midwestern State (Texas), but the Eagles didn't generate much offense while falling 1-0 at Stang Park on Saturday afternoon.
Midwestern State (15-1-1, 12-1-1 Heartland Conference) won the league's North Division title and with 37 standings points will be the top seed for the Heartland's six-team postseason tournament. OC (6-11-1, 4-9-1) finished 10th in the 12-team league in standings points with 13, but finished with the program's highest win total since 2015.
The Mustangs outshot OC 25-2, with OC's shots coming from
Diego Vazquez in the second minute and
Garrett Blume in the 49th minute. Midwestern State goalkeeper Taylor Lampe saved both shots.
OC goalkeeper
Anthony Trabichet made 11 saves, matching his season high. The freshman from Thonon-les-Bains, France, finished the season with 109 saves, 33 more than any other Heartland goalkeeper and the most by an OC goalkeeper since Bryan Cochrum had 113 saves during the 2008 season.
Midwestern State scored in the 34th minute, when Julian Barajas sent in a cross from 20 yards out into the penalty box, where Guiherme Leme shot from about eight yards past Trabichet. The Mustangs almost scored again late, but Nathan Clark's header hit the crossbar in the 88th minute.
