Box Score ST. LOUIS (Dec. 19, 2017) –In the 30 seconds before halftime on Tuesday afternoon at Maryville (Mo.), Oklahoma Christian surrendered two 3-pointers to the Saints' Casey Teson, putting the Eagles in a hole entering the second half.
Thanks in good part to Teson's hot shooting, the Eagles weren't able to climb out of that hole and Maryville spent the second half pulling away for a 79-62 win over the Eagles in the final game of the Maryville Classic at Moloney Arena.
OC (3-8) couldn't overcome the inside-outside combination of Nolan Berry, who finished with 23 points and 11 rebounds for Maryville (9-2), and Teson, who scored 20 points on 8-of-9 shooting and made all four of his 3-point attempts.
In the first meeting between the basketball programs, OC led the Saints for long stretches in the first half. The Eagles twice held five-point advantages, the final time at 23-18 after a 3-pointer by
Jordan Box at the 9:57 mark.
OC took its final lead at 34-31 on a fast-break layup by Box at the 2:50 mark, but the Saints closed the half on a 10-2 run, highlighted by Teson's two 3-pointers, to go up 41-36. The Saints then scored the first five points of the second half, with another Teson 3-pointer giving them a 46-36 lead with 17:53 left.
The Eagles came no closer than eight points the rest of the way and Maryville stretched its lead to as many as 18 points in the final minutes.
Box scored 17 points – his second-highest total of the season – for OC and point guard
Charles Shaw added 13 points for OC.
OC will be off until Dec. 30, when the Eagles will close nonconference play with a game at Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Eagles will begin Heartland Conference play at home on Jan. 4 against Arkansas-Fort Smith.
