Box Score ALVA, Okla. (Oct. 3, 2017) – Oklahoma Christian's overtime misfortune continued Tuesday night with yet another heartbreaking loss, this time at Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Northwestern's Hollie Pankake converted a penalty kick three minutes into the second overtime period to lift the Rangers past the Lady Eagles 4-3 at the Alva Recreation Complex.
The OT loss was the fourth of the season for OC (1-10) in as many opportunities. Northwestern (2-7-1) won its second straight game as the Rangers outshot OC 30-17 – 8-0 in overtime – and rallied twice from one-goal deficits.
Myah Buhler's first career goal, a header off a corner kick by
Lauren Parker, put OC ahead in the 12th minute, but Northwestern's Calvonis Prentice answered six minutes later and Yazmin Gomez scored in the 29th minute to give the Rangers a 2-1 halftime lead.
OC controlled the early stages of the second half and the Lady Eagles were rewarded with goals by
Corina Marin in the 52nd minute and
Courtney Nixon in the 56th minute, with Nixon's score – her second of the season – putting them ahead 3-2.
Bailey Jarvis pulled Northwestern even again in the 84th minute and two late shots by OC – by Marin and
Courtney Hernandez – didn't find the mark, forcing overtime.
A foul in the penalty box against OC resulted in the decisive penalty kick for the Rangers in the 103rd minute.
OC goalkeeper
Addison Milner matched her career high with 11 saves and reached double digits in that category for the fourth time this season. All other Heartland Conference goalkeepers combined have done so once. Milner has more than twice as many saves this season (84) as the league's second-place goalkeeper in that category (38).
Northwestern used two goalkeepers, with Kylee Loustaunau playing in the first half and overtime periods and Elia Garcia playing the second half. Loustaunau had three saves while Garcia had five.
OC will return to conference action on Saturday, wrapping up a six-game road stretch at Lubbock Christian (Texas).
