Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Sept. 13, 2016) – Southern Nazarene capitalized on its two best chances on Tuesday night at the Eagle Soccer Field, while Oklahoma Christian's scoring hopes twice were stymied by the crossbar of the goal.

Thus SNU headed home to Bethany with a 2-0 win over the Lady Eagles in the annual matchup of longtime archrivals. The Crimson Storm extended their lead in the overall series against OC to 24-14-4.

SNU (1-3) entered the game having scored only one goal this season, but outshot OC (1-3) by an 18-17 count and pressed the attack early.

OC defender Chelsea Key made a nice defensive play in the 11th minute to clear away a dangerous ball with goalkeeper Carina Schanz out of the goal, and Schanz made strong saves in the 13th and 36th minutes, the latter a kick save on a point-blank shot by Rebekah Abrego.

In the 16th minute, OC's Jen Atherton nearly put her team ahead, but a strong shot from about 15 yards out clanged off the crossbar.

As SNU had done in the first half, OC pressured early in the second half and again nearly went ahead, but a shot from a tight angle by Rubi Villegas Aguilar in the 47th minute also banged off the bar. That proved to be the Lady Eagles' last, best chance to score.

SNU broke through in the 64th minute, as Alyssa Glitzke's corner kick found Hannah Robinson in the penalty box, and Glitzke's shot beat Schanz. In the 86th minute, the Crimson Storm sealed their win when Meagan Chase scored on another close-in shot, assisted by Kylee Payne.

Schanz made six saves for the Lady Eagles, while SNU goalkeeper Natasha Fuentes had five.

OC will visit Heartland Conference rival Dallas Baptist (Texas) – a NCAA Division II quarterfinalist last season – on Thursday before traveling to Austin, Texas, for a Saturday game another league power, St. Edward's.
