Box Score ADA, Okla. (Sept. 1, 2016) – Oklahoma Christian women's soccer coach
Randall Robison touted his team's recruiting class during the preseason, and sure enough, one of the Lady Eagles' newcomers stepped up for her team right off the bat.
Freshman
Kylee Ingalls scored in the 15th minute off an assist from senior
Sophia Brazil and OC goalkeeper
Carina Schanz made nine saves as the Lady Eagles downed East Central 1-0 at Tiger Field in the 2016 season opener on Thursday.
It was the first win for OC (1-0) over East Central (0-1) in six tries – the teams hadn't played since 2004 – and it was the first time since 2012 that the Lady Eagles won a season opener on the field.
OC controlled the match, outshooting East Central 30-17, and could have won by a wider margin had ECU goalkeeper Chloe Hull not made 10 saves.
The goal for Ingalls, a freshman from Buhler, Kan., came after Brazil sent her a cross from the right side. Ingalls beat Hull to the goalkeeper's left to put OC ahead.
While Hull kept the game close, Schanz made sure the Tigers never found the back of the net. Three of her saves came in the final three minutes, as East Central made a desperate, late push for a potential equalizer. It was the fifth shutout of Schanz's collegiate career and she finished just one save off her career high.
OC's home opener will be on Saturday at 5 p.m. against Northeastern State.
