Box Score DALLAS (Oct. 20, 2016) – It was a night of frustration for Oklahoma Christian from start to finish on Thursday at Dallas Baptist.
Before they could even settle into the game, the Eagles surrendered a goal in the opening minute. For the next 89 minutes, OC outplayed the Patriots but came out on the wrong end of a 1-0 score.
It was the sixth one-goal loss of the men's soccer season for OC (4-10-1, 2-8-1 Heartland Conference) and it happened even though the Eagles outshot Dallas Baptist (5-9-1, 3-8) by an 18-13 margin and took 11 corner kicks to the Patriots' one.
OC missed a pair of goals by inches, hitting the crossbar twice –
Sergio Flores doing so in the 44th minute, and an uncredited player doing so again in the 84th minute.
The Eagles kept Dallas Baptist goalkeeper Tyler Hoffman active the entire game, forcing him to make seven saves, matching his career high. His biggest came in the moments after the Eagles had hit the crossbar the second time, snuffing out a follow shot by Flores.
Dallas Baptist's goal came when Garrett Morgan directed a header to Jacob Garcia, whose shot into a left corner of the net eluded OC goalkeeper
Evan Helker. Helker finished with five saves before leaving the game in the 56th minute. Sophomore
Gary Goldsboro Jr. went the rest of the way in goal for the Eagles, making his first appearance of the season and second of his career. He made one save.
OC will continue its road swing on Saturday, visiting No. 3-ranked St. Edward's (Texas).
