Eagles Finish Unbeaten in LSC Play With 3-2 Win at UT Tyler

TYLER, Texas – Oklahoma Christian men's soccer closed out the Lone Star Conference regular season without a loss, beating UT Tyler 3-2 on Saturday afternoon at Citizens First Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex. The Eagles finish league play 6-0-4 with 22 points, winners of three straight, and improve to 10-3-4 overall.

Kenzo Shabazz-Edwards put OC in front in the 16th minute for his sixth goal of the season. UT Tyler's Dennis Nyame tied it in the 30th, and the teams went to the break at 1-1.

Alejandro Gomez restored the lead in the 61st minute with an assist from Mason Tracey, but Jamie Joyce answered for the Patriots just over two minutes later. Manuel Mbumwae scored the game-winner in the 71st minute, set up by Shabazz-Edwards, who finished with a goal, an assist and three shots.

UT Tyler outshot the Eagles 21-8, but goalkeeper Dante Caffaro made eight saves, five of them in the first half, to hold the lead.

Oklahoma Christian has completed its league schedule and is assured of a top-three seed in the six-team LSC Tournament. Midwestern State (23 points) has already passed the Eagles, and St. Mary's (17 points) is the only team that can still catch them.

  • No. 2 seed (most likely): OC earns a first-round bye and hosts a semifinal on Wednesday, Nov. 4, against the winner of the No. 3 vs. No. 6 quarterfinal.

  • No. 3 seed (only if St. Mary's beats West Texas A&M tonight and Midwestern State on Wednesday): OC hosts the No. 6 seed in a quarterfinal on Saturday, Oct. 31.

The championship is Saturday, Nov. 7, hosted by the highest remaining seed.
