Lady Eagles get ‘unfortunate’ draw at Texas A&M International

OC goalkeeper Carina Schanz recorded her fourth shutout of the season in the draw against Texas A&M International.
Box Score LAREDO, Texas (Oct. 15, 2015) – Oklahoma Christian did everything it needed to do to beat Texas A&M International on Thursday night at Dustdevil Field – except score a goal.

The Lady Eagles held possession for long stretches and posted a 20-11 advantage in shots, but came away only with a 0-0 tie against TAMIU.

It was OC's first scoreless draw since Sept. 26, 2006, when the Lady Eagles battled John Brown (Ark.) to a 0-0 deadlock.

"It was an unfortunate result for the girls tonight," OC coach Randall Robison said. "We committed to possession and succeeded. They committed to defending and succeeded. I'm very proud of our team and the brand of soccer they played. We showed quality throughout the game, stuck to our game plan and competed with class.

"We were unlucky during a few moments of the game that simply didn't go our way. We need to find a way to break through against teams when so many numbers are committed to defending us."

OC (4-6-2, 1-3-1 Heartland Conference) ran up against a hot goalkeeper in the Dustdevils' Chelsea Knaack, who leads the Heartland in saves and stopped 10 OC shots on Thursday to keep TAMIU (1-11-1, 0-3-1) in the game.

Freshman goalkeeper Carina Schanz recorded her fourth shutout of the season for the Lady Eagles, making six saves, two of those during the first overtime period.

The Lady Eagles will continue their road trip Saturday at St. Mary's (Texas), needing a win to stay in the race for one of the four spots in the Heartland's postseason tournament.
