Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Nov. 1, 2014) –
Lindsey Williams continues to roll up big save numbers for Oklahoma Christian, but the Lady Eagles have found it tough to generate offense to support the junior goalkeeper.
Williams – who ranks eighth in NCAA Division II in saves – posted her sixth double-digit outing of the season, making 11 stops against Lubbock Christian (Texas) on Saturday, but the Lady Chaparrals still left the Eagle Soccer Field a 3-0 winner over OC.
Lubbock Christian (11-5, 6-1 Heartland Conference) outshot OC 28-5 and rarely allowed the Lady Eagles to threaten offensively.
OC's best scoring chance came in the 69th minute, when freshman
Madeline Roseke had a one-on-one chance against Lubbock Christian goalkeeper Lauren Story. But just before Roseke could put some oomph on her shot, Story grabbed the ball to make the save.
The Lady Eagles' only other significant scoring opportunity came in the final moments of the first half, during a scramble in the Lubbock Christian penalty box. OC's
Carley Cooley was able to get off a shot, but it went wide as the halftime horn sounded.
Thanks to solid defense, OC (1-14-2, 0-6-1) was able to keep the score tied until the 27th minute, when Ashley Ledford's cross from the right side found Claudia Sanchez, who beat Williams from about six yards out. It was Sanchez's 12th goal of the season.
The Lady Chaparrals made it 2-0 in the 61st minute, with Sanchez assisting on a shot from 10 yards by Brooke Wendl, who scored her conference-leading 14th goal of the season.
Lubbock Christian made it 3-0 in the 83rd minute. After a corner kick by the Lady Chaparrals, the ball pinged around in the penalty area a couple of times before finding Ashley Ledford, who scored to seal the win.
Story was credited with two saves for Lubbock Christian, which is 4-0 all-time against OC.
OC will wrap up its season on Monday, when the Lady Eagles host Heartland rival Texas-Permian Basin.
