Alexis Farrell capped a strong second half for Oklahoma Christian with a last-minute goal, but the Lady Eagles dropped a 4-1 decision at Texas A&M International on Monday afternoon.
Sol Medina had a pair of goals and an assist for Texas A&M International (6-5-1, 4-2 Heartland Conference), which outshot OC 16-12. But it was OC (0-13-1, 0-4) that posted a 10-6 edge in shots in the second half, forcing TAMIU backup goalkeeper Christina Morales to make five saves.
The Dustdevils took the lead in the 24th minute, with Medina's shot from eight yards – after a pass from Karina Garcia – getting past OC goalkeeper
Lindsey Williams. TAMIU made it 2-0 in the 29th minute when Kim Garcia converted a penalty kick awarded after a foul was called on the Lady Eagles in the penalty box.
Medina's assist – a long pass from about 35 yards out – came on a goal by Jessica Parker in the 36th minute. Garcia connected with Medina again in the 74th minute on the Dustdevils' final goal.
Farrell's goal, on a 35-yard shot in the 90th minute, came after a deflected throw-in by the Lady Eagles. Sophomore
Devon Palluth was credited with her first career assist on the play. The goal was the first for Farrell, a junior midfielder from Rowlett, Texas, since she scored twice during her freshman season while playing for Lubbock Christian (Texas).
Williams finished with five saves in 79 minutes for the Lady Eagles. Freshman
Carly Caplinger played the final 11 minutes for OC, making one save in her second appearance of the season.
Texas A&M International's starting goalkeeper, Ana Martinez, made two saves in the first half before giving way to Morales at the start of the second half.
OC's four-game road stretch will continue with games on Saturday at Newman (Kan.) and next Monday at Rogers State.
