Dallas Baptist overcomes Lady Eagles, elements to win 2-0

Mackenzie Marquardt and the Lady Eagles fell 2-0 to Dallas Baptist on Monday.
Box Score OKLAHOMA CITY (Oct. 13, 2014) – The weather conditions at the Eagle Soccer Field on Monday afternoon were, in a word, miserable – pouring rain and a 30-35 mph north wind that made it feel considerably colder than the 50-degree air temperature.

Oklahoma Christian battled through the elements and showed more than a few flashes of promise against one of the Heartland Conference's better teams, but two goals by Jolee Patterson gave Dallas Baptist (Texas) a 2-0 win over the Lady Eagles.

OC (0-11-1, 0-2 Heartland) took advantage of the wind in the first half to outshoot Dallas Baptist (7-3-1, 1-1) by an 8-6 count, and the Patriots finished the game with only a 15-9 edge in shots. OC earned as many corner kicks (five) as DBU and, most importantly for coach Randall Robison, showed competitiveness against a quality foe.

Dallas Baptist didn't take the lead until the 32nd minute. Emilie MacDonald sent a pass to Patterson, whose shot from 12 yards was initially stopped by OC goalkeeper Lindsey Williams. But Williams couldn't secure the wet ball and it rolled slowly into the goal to put the Patriots ahead.

Williams recorded one of her seven saves in the 53rd minute on a shot by DBU's Ashley Cox. Patterson was right there to collect the rebound and score easily, making it 2-0.

With the consent of Robison and DBU coach Michelle Lenard, game referee Bill Pevarnik ended the contest in the 71st minute due to deteriorating field conditions and the poor weather. A game must last at least 70 minutes to be counted as official.

Dallas Baptist goalkeeper Kerry Edwards played 66½ minutes and recorded six saves before giving way to Madalyn Tschantz for the final 4:22 of the match.

Of OC's nine shots, four came from Madeline Roseke and Estefania Bermudez Delgado and Courtney Nixon each recorded a pair, while Chelsea Key had one.

The Lady Eagles will be off until Saturday, when they visit Heartland rival St. Mary's (Texas) in San Antonio for the first of four straight road games.
