No. 2 Oklahoma City University defeated No. 21 Oklahoma Christian here Thursday night in the Eagles' Nest.
The victory was the second game in the inaugural "Backyard Brawl" between the two metro-area rivals. Oklahoma Christian took the women's contest 63-48.
Oklahoma City (8-0, 20-0) remained perfect on the season after shooting 69 percent from the field and the three-point line in the first half to take a 48-31 lead into halftime.
Oklahoma Christian jumped out early in the game after Oklahoma City was flagged with a technical foul in pregame warmups for a slam dunk. OC senior Keith Harris put the Eagles up 2-0 before the game started and OC took a 5-0 lead when Charles Baldwin drained a three-pointer 15 seconds into the game.
The lead evaporated quickly with OCU going on a three-point rampage, mainly from senior guard Nick Covington, who drained 6-of-7 treys in the first half. As a team, the Stars were 9-of-13 from beyond the arc in the opening stanza.
Covington began the second half with another three-pointer just 20 seconds in. The Stars led by as many as 29 points on their way to the 26-point win.
OCU outrebounded OC 51-22 and shot an even 50 percent from the field, including 11-of-19 from three-point range.
OCU was paced by Covington's game-high 27 points while Willie Irick came off the bench to add 22.
Patrick Grewe led the Eagles with 17 points while Harris finished with 14 points and five rebounds. Micah Miles added 11 for OC.
OC (4-3, 10-7) will next be in action on Saturday in Siloam Springs, Ark., against John Brown University. The Eagles and Stars meet again on Feb. 17 at OCU.
