Eagles upset No. 2 Oklahoma Baptist

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 20, 2010) – The Oklahoma Christian men's basketball team upset the No. 2 Oklahoma Baptist University 64-58 on Saturday night in a packed Eagle's Nest.

The OC men had the Bison in their sights from the start taking to an early 5-2 lead with 17:00 remaining in the half. The three-point lead was the largest of the half as the score remained tied or within one point as the teams played through 18 lead changes and seven ties during the period.

With 55 seconds left on the clock before the half, the Bison led by one at 22-21. After a foul with just 8 seconds left to play, Jason Taylor scored two free throws to put the Eagles ahead by one heading into halftime.

The Eagles were ready for battle in the second half as Jeff Crocker drained a trey to put the Eagles up by four, the largest lead of the game, just seconds into the period.

The Bison retook the lead with a one-point swing and 15:33 left to play. OBU increased the margin to three points at 33-30, their largest lead of the game.

The Eagles quickly responded and tied it up before taking a four-point lead moments later of a three-pointer from Chad Endres with 10:43 on the clock. The Eagles never resigned the lead from that point but utilized a second half accuracy of 67 percent from the field to do so.

Holding just points ahead of the adept Bison, the Eagles continued to slowly increase their lead and led by ten points with just 1:27 left on the clock. Even so, the Bison were not out of the picture as they decreased the lead to three in only 20 seconds of play.

The last minute came down to desperation fouls from the Bison, but the Eagles knocked in 12 of 18 during the half to keep the OBU squad at bay. With 34 seconds left, the Eagles increased their lead back to eight.

With 6 seconds showing on the clock the Bison had come within four points, but it wasn't enough as Jeff Crocker hit both of his free throws to put a six-point lead on the Bison and win the game 64-58.

Crocker led the Eagles with 17 points and eight assits. Andre Vaughn added another 13 points while Taylor put up 12 and grabbed six rebounds. Chad Endres also padded the Eagles' score tallying 11 points and pulled down nine rebounds in the process.

Two crowd-raising dunks were seen from Michael Hill who put up six points for the Eagles.

The Eagles are now 21-7 for the season and 13-7 for conference play.

The OC men will join the women in hosting John Brown University (Ark.) on Thursday night for the last home game this season. The men will tip off at 8 p.m. following the women's game at 6.
