OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Nov. 3, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian equaled a season high in goals in a 7-0 shutout over Northwestern Oklahoma State on Monday night. The victory – OC's third in its last four games – puts the Lady Eagles at 9-7-1 overall and 5-4 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The Lady Eagles had an impressive 32-1 shot edge in the Monday's win. OC fired 15 shots on goal to none for Northwestern (2-14-1, 2-8). Lady Eagle goalkeepers Lisa Jorgensen and Jacqueline Kinch combined with a solid defensive group to pitch the team's sixth shutout of 2008.
The scoring began almost immediately after the start of the game. Just 1:38 into the action, OC's Stephanie Duncan scored on an assist from Hope Heinen to make it 1-0.
Then in the sixth minute of the game, Heather Spencer scored with help from a Kacie Hoppe assist to up the lead to 2-0.
Duncan booted her second goal of the game in the 23rd minute to put OC up 3-0 at halftime. Duncan's second score was assisted by Spencer.
The Lady Eagles picked up right where they left off in the second half when Jessica Ortman connected a 40-plus-yard goal at the 50-minute point.
Then Emma Cole went to work with a pair of goals at the 56:41 and 64:18 junctures that upped OC's edge to 6-0.
Finally Chelsea Woods added the final blow with another deep score from the left side to bring the final count to 7-0.
Duncan's two-score game upped her team lead to 11 goals on the season. The Austin, Texas, native is also OC's leader in assists (seven) and points (29).
Cole is second on the team with nine scores after Monday night, while Spencer has five goals this year. The connections from Ortman and Woods were the first of the season for each player.
The victory sets up the Lady Eagles' final regular-season game tomorrow at Science and Arts of Oklahoma at 2 p.m. The game is a makeup from the regularly-scheduled game on Oct. 14.
A win tomorrow would give OC home-field advantage for the upcoming SAC Tournament, set to begin this weekend. OC would host Rogers State (Okla.) as the No. 4 seed with a win tomorrow. A loss would send the Lady Eagles to the No. 6 seed and a first-round match at John Brown (Ark.).
