Oklahoma Christian University won the 2004 Sooner Athletic Conference soccer championship as the Lady Eagles defeated Oklahoma City University 1-0 in Oklahoma City Nov. 3.
Playing on a rain-soaked, muddy field, sophomore Rachel Wrinkle booted a 30-yard scoring shot off a free kick to provide the margin of victory. After a scoreless first half, Wrinkle's goal came one minute and 58 seconds into the second half.
By winning the SAC playoff tournament, the Lady Eagles will advance to the NAIA Region VI Tournament to be hosted by top-seeded Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva, beginning Monday, Nov. 8.
OC goalkeeper Chelsee Truesdell faced six shots on goal and earned a save on each one for her eighth shut-out of the season. She received able back up from sweeper Candace Spencer. In the 54th minute Truesdell dove right for a save, the ball rolled loose and OCU's Amanda Jones kicked it back toward the goal. Spencer fielded the ball and cleared it to stop the scoring threat.
The Lady Eagles, seeded sixth in the playoff, advances with an 11-10 season record. OCU is now 12-3-4.
This is the second SAC Championship for the Lady Eagles. OC won the 2002 title, followed with a victory in the Region VI tournament and earned a berth in the NAIA National Tournament.
