OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 23, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian beat Rogers State (Okla.) 61-44 Saturday night to move to 15-12 overall and 11-9 in the Sooner Athletic Conference.
The game was RSU's (12-16, 8-12) first ever appearance inside the Eagles' Nest. The Lady Hillcats are a first-year program and member of the SAC.
Brittney Kennedy scored a career-high 22 points and snagged a career-best nine rebounds in the win.
The sophomore's career night came nine days after scoring 19 points, and setting her previous career high, vs. Wayland Baptist (Texas) on Feb. 14.Â
Trailing 9-8 with 9:37 left in the first half, OC went on an 18-4 spurt to take the lead for good.
Hillary Duncan got the rant started with a layup to put OC up 10-9. Kennedy scored 10 points in the rally. The Sapulpa, Okla., native's score with 3:22 to play gave the Lady Eagles a 23-13 lead.
Kennedy drained two free throws with :20.7 to play to up OC's lead to 30-17 at the break.
Kennedy scored 14 first-half points on 6-of-7 shooting.
OC gradually pulled away in the opening minutes of the second half. A Devin Sewell layup at 10:22 gave the Lady Eagles their largest lead of the game at 41-23.
The Hillcats mustered a 7-2 charge from 7:29 to 5:34 to pull within 10. Tasha Parker hit 2-of-2 free throws to make it a 46-36 game with 5:34 left.
RSU briefly cut its deficit to single-digits when Yoda Woods scored at 3:52 and made the score 49-40.
But OC outscored RSU 12-4 from there to earn the 17-point win.
Kailan DeCamp netted 17 points and grabbed seven steals. OC shot 45.7 percent (21-of-46) from the field for the game.
Azzie Knox led RSU with 14 points.
The win avenged the Lady Hillcats' 67-64 win in Claremore on Jan. 17.
The Lady Eagles play their final regular-season home game of the season on Feb. 28 vs. another new member of the SAC, Mid-America Christian (Okla.). The women's game tips at 6 p.m. followed by men's action at 8 p.m.
