OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (Feb. 28, 2008) – Oklahoma Christian won its final 2007-2008 regular-season home game on Thursday with a 73-46 thumping of Mid-America Christian (Okla.).

The victory sets the stage for OC's tangle with No. 5 Oklahoma City on Thursday at OCU's Abe Lemons Arena. The game is this season's final installment of the "Backyard Brawl" series sponsored by The Oklahoman and Bank of America.

"One day is not very long to prepare for a team like OCU, but we just have to be solid with our basics and on defense. That is something we have done well all year," OC head coach Stephanie Findley said.

OC led by as many as five points in the opening eight minutes on Thursday before MACU fought back and Courtney Sorrels tied the game at 9-9 on a guarded jumper with 11:24 in the half.

The Lady Eagles shot back with a 9-0 run to again assume control.

Kailan DeCamp got the rally started with a conventional three-point play at 10:41. Then Brittney Kennedy sealed it with a score at 8:00 to give OC an 18-9 edge.

The Lady Eagles held three separate nine-point leads in the half but did not take a double-digit lead until Jordan Findley sunk a three-pointer with 43.9 seconds left.

The triple helped OC to a 27-15 halftime edge.

Both teams struggled from the floor in the first half. Findley's trey was one of a 2-for-12 three-point and 11-for-39 (.282) overall shooting half. The Lady Evangels faired even worse, going 7-for-27 (.259) from the field and 1-for-6 from three.

Halftime adjustments paid off as both teams shot dramatically better to open the second stanza.

The Lady Eagles scored six unanswered to begin the half and go up 33-15 by the 18:30 mark. Charlotte Heron scored four points in the push.

MACU was able to whittle the lead down with a 10-2 charge. Sorrels scored at 16:03 to make it a 35-25 game.
But the Lady Eagles took over from there. Consecutive Haley Myers two's kicked off a 17-7 charge that extended OC's lead to the 20-point mark when Chelsey Wyer buried two free throws at 10:04.

Wyer had eight second-half points, including a score at 5:26 that gave OC its largest lead yet at 63-41.

The Lady Eagles' largest lead was their last, a 27-point cushion at the final buzzer.

Kennedy led all scorers with 15 points on 6-of-9 shooting. The effort came of the heels of the sophomore's career-high 22-point, nine-rebound output vs. Rogers State (Okla.) on Feb. 23.

Wyer tallied 12 points and six rebounds.

Treasure McCoy led MACU with 14 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field.

OC and OCU are set to tip at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The men's version of the "Backyard Brawl" will tip at 8 p.m.
